Please find some information from Mrs. Davidoff about some things happening in the last couple weeks of this school year:

Dear Parents/Guardians,

‘Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage’—Anais Nin

Dr. Jody Carrington defines brave as ‘diving into something, with your whole heart, without knowing the outcome.’  Since the middle of March,  students, parents, and staff of Simons Valley School have entered each day with hope and courage. Each day has been an adventure, not always an easy one but where bravery has been abundant. We are so grateful to be a part of this amazing community! We are down to our last few days and so as we wrap up the school year, here are a few reminders.

A final,  SVS ‘Drop by and Drop Off’ Food Drive, will be held from June 23rd - 25th from 9am – 3pm. Green bins will line the ramp leading into the parking lot where donations can be dropped off.

From June 23-25th from 9 am – 3 pm, Simons Valley parents may return library books and home reading books. A labeled drop off site will be set up by the Kindergarten area. At this same time, families who have not yet picked up their child’s school supply bags may do so.

All loaned Chrome Book laptops need to be returned to the school between June 23rd25th    between 9 am - 3 pm.
Please contact Mrs. Davidoff at 403-777-6660, if you are unable to drop off during these dates/times.

Given COVID-19 restrictions, June report cards will be made available online through MyCBE/PowerSchool. Once logged in, select the “Report Card” tab to view the report card. If a printed report card is required, please contact the school to arrange a time to safely collect it during school hours by June 26th. Please our school website for printing directions.

Grade 6 parents may pick up their child/children’s yearbook from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Thursday, June 25. There will be a designated drive-through area, in front of the school, where you can stay in your car and Ms. Blyth/Mrs. Davidoff will hand out a yearbook.

Kindly,
Mrs. Davidoff

Bus reminder and thank you.

Hello 3C Families,

A message/reminder from the school;

Dear Parents,
Please help us plan yellow school bus routes for next year by pre-registering before June 14, 2020.
We know that there are many unknowns and we do not yet know what September will look like for return to school. We understand that you may not have finalized your decisions for September. However, if you do not pre-register by June 14, we will not include your address as bus routes are planned. It may take up to 4 weeks to add a bus stop for you, and congregated stop locations are only reviewed once per year. As a result, your stop location may be much further away from your home, as your address was not included in the route planning. There is no requirement to pay at the time of registration, and there is no financial penalty if you register for bus service and cancel before the cancellation deadline.

If you have not already done the following, please do so now:
1. Create a Parent CBE PowerSchool Account using your student’s CBE number above by following the instructions at this website: https://sis.cbe.ab.ca/public/home.html

2. Sign up for school emails by “subscribing” to School Messenger: http://calgary.schoolmessenger.com/cbe_subscribe

Kindly,
Gina Davidoff
Assistant Principal

I just wanted to add a thanks for all the support you're giving your child on our online learning...Talking to teacher friends and parents it seems like it isn't always easy juggling everything going on right now and the changes that have effected our daily lives, but I think we're doing a great job collectively as 3C, so a big thank you from me!!

Have an excellent weekend,

April 17th

April 17th, 2020

Dear Grade 3C Families,

I hope you all had a lovely Easter together with lots of chocolates last weekend!
I hope you and your families are doing well as we continue to learn in the google
classroom.
It was great talking to 3C students about the long weekend today.
Thank you for continuing to facilitate your child's online learning in our google
classroom.

New work will be posted to the google classroom daily, M-F, but I will also continue to provide extension work and extra practice here from time to time:

The Calgary Public library has a new math connection for kids called Tumblemath!
Story books that relate to many math topics. Your child may also look at Solaro as well as
many other digital library resources. If your child has a library card, they may log in with it.
If not, then they may access the online library by using their Gmail log in (edu) and then the
Pin is 1234567. Your child can apply for a free card online which they may use right away too.
There is a menu at the top left corner ______       three lines called the “hamburger menu”
                                                                    ______
                                                                    ______

on the library page. Brainfuse is a writing lab your child may access with skill surfer. There is also
tutoring available. The public library is an excellent way to continue learning. It is quite interesting
and fun, so navigate and learn.

I hope you have an excellent weekend,

New work will be posted to the google classroom Monday,

Take good care,
Brennan O'Reilly

reminder about "the great pick up"

April 8th, 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The GREAT PICK UP
Just a reminder to check the Simons Valley School website for designated times of
when you can pick up your child’s belongings.

Student last name (A-L) ONLY pick up on Thursday and Student last name (M-Z)
Tuesday only.

Please only come during your time. Wednesday April 15th is an alternate date only
to be used if you are unable to come in this Thursday or upcoming Tuesday.

LIBRARY BOOKS and HOME READING BOOKS
All SVS library books/home reading books can be returned the day of your pick up.

FOOD DRIVE
In addition to the ‘Great Pick Up’, we will also have boxes available for food donations.
The Salvation Army Berkshire Citadel Community Church has been at the forefront of supporting
many of our SVS families and this is one way we can help replenish their
supplies.  They are in need of canned fruit and vegetables but are grateful for any
non-perishable items.

Be Brave, Be Kind, Stay Positive.

Thank you all for getting your child to check out the Google classroom and
getting work done! Please remind your child to check the Google classroom
daily for messages and work.

This will be the blog for the week, as I wanted to write it early to ensure
another reminder about “the Great Pickup” went out and everyone is
hopefully informed.  There won’t be new work on the google classroom,
Fri-Mon, as per our four day Easter holiday. If your child is keen to have
work to do over the holiday, please ask them to finish any uncompleted
work from this week ending tomorrow at 3:45. They can also continue
to do 20 minutes of daily reading and prodigy.  After tomorrow the
google classroom will resume again on Tuesday, April 14th.

Have an excellent holiday (in advance)

Thank you,

Brennan

Important information about collecting student items

Friday April 3rd, 2020

Hello 3C Families,

Please check your child’s school email for a link to join our
google classroom.  As stated in previous blogs and emails
...our learning will take place in google classroom going
forward starting Monday April 6th.

Please view this video on how to join a google meet if
you are having trouble doing so once we begin using it
How to Join a Google Meet (Teachers, Students, Parents)

PLEASE READ THE IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOUND
BELOW REGARDING PICKING UP YOUR CHILD’S BELONGINGS
FROM THE SCHOOL
Dear Simons Valley Parents/Guardians,
Thank you for being the amazing parent group that you are!
Your patience and support as we navigate through these
uncertain times is so appreciated. Our school mantra has
been ‘We are all in this together!’ and truly what matters
the most right now, is how we stay connected in uncertain
times.
Many of you have asked about when you are able to
come by the school and gather your child’s belongings
as well as, returning library books. We would like to offer
you the opportunity to come to SVS on
Thursday April 9th AM (only) for student last names
starting with A-L
Tuesday April 14th AM (only) for student last names
starting beginning with M-Z
ALTERNATE ONLY: Wednesday April 15th
Please see the schedule below:
IMPORTANT: In accordance with Alberta Health
Services and social distancing:
· If anyone in your family is ill, please do not come to
the school. Student belongings will not leave the school
and we can make arrangements at another time for you
to come in when your family is healthy. We prefer to be
cautious and not endanger the staff and their families.
· Only one parent, (no students will be allowed) is invited
to come to the school at their designated time. Please
make sure you know your child’s/children’s teacher’s name.
Do not collect for any other families but your own.
· Ask your child the description of their indoor shoes.
This is not a time to socialize and catch up. We need you
to be as efficient and quick as possible to help maximize
the safety of everyone. We do request that you promptly
collect your belongings, not engage in conversation and
respect social distancing for your safety and that of our
staff. (We don’t mean for this to be so quick and impersonal
but health and safety is our number one priority).
Kindly follow the schedule below with the first letter of your
child’s last name and enter through the glass doors by the
parking lot (Grade One doors) and exit by the front doors
on Sandarac Drive. We ask you to try to make it on
Thursday/Tuesday and only come on Wednesday as an alternate.
SVS staff is working hard planning and organizing learning
materials. We ask that you check your emails and our
website Simons Valley School, as it can be translated into
a variety of languages. Please feel free to contact us at the
school at 403-777-6660 or email your child’s teacher. Although
we have no idea when we will come out of this, if we stand
by one another, we can somehow rise above it. After all,
when this is all over, all that will really matter is how we
treated each other.
